2026 Reading So Far

For me, there’s nothing better than a quiet afternoon spent tucked into my recliner with a good book and a hot cup of tea. The phone is silenced and there are no interruptions. In this life there are no little children to care for, no employer with expectations and deadlines. My schedule is my own and my soulmate, my husband is non-demanding and savors the quiet as much if not more than me.

Reading or watching old movies, escapes when I was a teenager, are still favorite pastimes. If a book draws me in, I’ve been known to read it from start to finish in a day. So what have I been reading so far in 2026? Since I love pictures, I’ll add a little gallery of book covers below.

My favorite genres of books are historical fiction, primarily WWII novels and mystery novels, especially cozy mysteries. One of the things I want to add to this blog is a page dedicated to my favorite authors and books series. I’ve been reading mysteries for about a decade now. Before that, I read crime fiction and while all the books I read were great reads, the darkness began to wear on me. That’s when I came across a website dedicated to “Cozy” Mysteries and I gave them a try. I’ve been hooked ever since.

As I was gathering the images for each of the book covers, I noticed The Tuesday Night Club by Agatha Christie was on sale for a whopping $.53! Fifty-three cents! Add another to my Kindle Library kids, which I still haven’t filled to capacity. That’s probably because I read a lot of books from Kindle Unlimited.

I recently paused my subscription because I still have quite a few books to read that I received through Amazon First Reads. Since we’re Prime Members, we get a book free from AFR each month. In fact one of my AFR monthly picks introduced me to author,Jane Healey. I picked up The Women of Arlington Hall and she immediately became a favorite. When I looked for more books she’d written, I found The Beantown Girls free-to-read through Prime Reading, yet another perk of our Prime membership.

The best part about reading is that it allows me to savor the moments slowly while the world races on all around me. When you’re young, you race through life achieving, striving and chasing a career, and even a “keep-up-with-the-Jones” kind of life. When you reach my age, you realize that a quiet life is an amazing gift.

Peace,

B
