Moving the Blog
After a lot of prayer and consideration, I’m moving my blog to a free hosting site. It will looks a bit different and I won’t have all the image galleries but it’s the best thing to do.
At the moment I’m paying $300 a year for this site and $20 for the domain. That of course can be reduced to $192 annually for the site subscription if I pay in full. Praise God this isn’t a matter of not having the finances for this lovely hobby. It’s more a matter of what else can I do with that money besides investing in a pretty blog. The reality of it all is vanity. Yup, I’m vain when it comes to aesthetics of my site. Which defeats the purpose of why I want a blog in the first place. It’s an outlet for my writing and a place to share whatever I feel the desire to share: faith, family, living a simple, uncluttered (both physically and mentally) life, crafting, reading, photography and well, whatever thoughts are rolling around in this brain.
Moving to Blogger (Google) is definitely a downgrade. Blogger is viewed as an entry level platform and it’s not being upgraded by Google. It definitely doesn’t play well with other sites when it comes to importing or exporting content. This is why I’ll be copying the entries I’ve written here and pasting them there. I have 3 weeks left on my monthly subscription which is plenty of time to do that. Today I moved 14 posts. I’m ready to get off this computer now.
The bottom line? My love of an expensive website platform is ridiculous and not warranted. Yeah, I like it and I can afford it but it’s definitely more than I need for my simple blog. On the upside, I’ve managed to find a theme on Etsy that gives me the grid post look that I like and I got it for $5! Money well spent.
You shouldn’t see any changes until August. The subscription here ends on 10 August. I’ll move the domain over sometime between Aug 1st-9th.
Peace,
B
